Paxil Oral Uses This medication is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) used to treat depression, panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), social anxiety disorder (social phobia), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and generalized anxiety disorders (GAD). Paroxetine should not be used in children less than 18 years of age. It has not been shown to be effective for depression in children or teenagers. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details. SSRI's work by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances in the brain (neurotransmitters), thereby improving mood and feelings of well-being. OTHER USES: This medication has also been used to treat a severe form of premenstrual syndrome (premenstrual dysphoric disorder- PMDD), sexual function problems in men (premature ejaculation), nerve problems associated with diabetes (diabetic neuropathy), and chronic headaches. How to use Paxil Oral Read the Medication Guide provided by your pharmacist before you start using paroxetine and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions regarding the information, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Take this medication by mouth usually once daily in the morning, with or without food; or as directed by your doctor. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. It is important to continue taking this medication as prescribed even if you feel well. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor. Some conditions may become worse when the drug is abruptly stopped. Your dose may need to be gradually decreased. It may take up to several weeks before the full benefit of this drug takes effect. Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve or worsens.
